Alongside our work at the Baytree Centre we are proud to announce that we have been asked to engage and educate Lambeth Scale-Up’s and SME organisations through the innovative Thrive programme. This programme aims to support these small organisations to future proof their business and we are honoured to be the DE&I lead on the project.
Our experience with disability goes way back when our founder, Zoe, was highly praised for an innovative and social approach to disability learning that the railway had never seen before, with a special mention from the Department for Transport for our work in devising, creating, and implementing an exciting new learning programme. Since then, we have been hooked on educating people to change their perspective of what disability means, so becoming a ‘Disability Confident Employer’ was the natural next step for us as an organisation. We are currently working our way up to the leadership status!
Even where we chose to base our offices is important to us. We searched for months to find offices that supported the local community, and that had a similar ethos to us, and we found them! Impact Brixton is where we call home and not only are we contributing to the Black pound, we are also surrounded by other inspiring organisations that are doing incredible things for the local community and beyond. We have access to some of the most incredible social enterprises in Lambeth and have partnered with them to bring about real social change.
As advocates for allyship, we are involved in many different petitions, marches, local government policies and beyond. We believe that virtue signalling is almost as damaging as not doing anything at all, so we strive to put our money where our mouth is, we do this by not only by proactively taking part in our local and national government discussions, but also in our everyday.
Supporting minority businesses through conscious purchasing, creating space for historically unheard groups, continuously educating ourselves on every area of EDI and beyond. We are advocates for practicing what you preach and constantly challenging ourselves in every way to ensure we are utilising all our privileges to lift those up that don’t have them.
